Beat Bama Food Drive

After 14 years of competition between Auburn and its biggest rival, the Beat Bama Food Drive has collected over 1.5 million pounds of food for local food shelters. The University of Alabama and Auburn compete each year to see which community and campus can collect the most food. The competition started on Oct. 20 and ends Nov. 20.

Red Cross to the rescue with Project SHARE

In January of 2008, an elderly woman in Opelika called Leigh Warren, the health and community services manager for the Lee County Red Cross, to ask for assistance in help paying her electricity bill. The woman said her power was being cut off that day. The problem was her husband was on a breathing machine. Warren told her to come straight to the Red Cross so they could keep this from happening.

Faith Palmer, a senior at Auburn University, is representing Auburn and the SEC in round four of the 2008 Athlon Sports Sideline Spirit contest. Cheerleaders or members of dance teams at universities are nominated by their school and selected to be in the competition. The competition consists of five rounds of voting. Each round lasts three weeks, with Palmer's round lasting from Nov. 1 until 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 21. The final round will consist of a run-off with each of the previous round winners… Continue

Juan E. Gilbert was recently named one of the 2008 Distinguished Diversity Researcher Awardees. He is a TSYS Distinguished Associate Professor in the Computer Science and Software Engineering Department and a Center for Governmental Services Fellow at Auburn University.
