Gold and Silver Exchange Opens on Gay Street

The Gold and Silver Exchange store located at 219 N. Gay St. opened on Oct. 19. The sole purpose of this store is to buy used gold and silver items from customers.

The owner, Pat Reno, is not new to the business world in Auburn. In 1980, she and her husband opened the first pawn shop in the city. The shop was located on College Street in the downtown area.

Relay for Life Hosts "Save Your Balls" Dodgeball Tournament

On October 15, Auburn University’s Relay for Life held a dodgeball tournament at Parkway Baptist Church to raise money for The American Cancer Society. The tournament is the first of several fundraising events that will lead up to the kickoff of Relay for Life on November 12.

Should ‘Operation Cat Nap’ be revived?

There are a fair amount of stray cats in every city, but Auburn seems to have more than its share of cats. The Lee County Humane Society reports that an average of 15 to 20 stray cats are brought in every day. They received almost 1,500 cats in the months of May through September alone. Although those numbers are the highest in the warmer months, the average per month remains fairly high throughout the year.
