Stephanie Bivins From Renovation to Open House: Opelika Chamber Building is Now Complete

Opelika Chamber of Commerce’s four month long renovations are now complete. To celebrate the brand new look of this 114-year-old Victorian jewel, the chamber hosted an open house and building dedication for chamber members to attend. The open house took place on Thursday, Nov. 5. It lasted from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Refreshments were available throughout the house. The food was prepared in the chamber’s remodeled kitchen. On Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Jordan-Hare stadium, 81,506 fans watch the Auburn Tigers take on the Furman Paladins for the 2009 Homecoming game. Mary Beth Walton Hope Floats in Downtown Auburn

Throughout the month of October, Auburn’s downtown merchant Wrapsody promoted breast cancer awareness in several ways. By creating its own program titled Hope Floats, the local gift shop was able to raise over $2,000 to help fund breast cancer research. “There’s always lots of different opportunities going on to raise awareness and fund raising for breast cancer awareness,” Kadie Crowell, Wrapsody’s assistant manager, said. “Wrapsody just wanted to take part in that.”

Anna Tucker Air Force R.O.T.C. introduces "AU Safe Run"

Each year the commanders of the Air Force R.O.T.C. program at Auburn University create projects that freshmen members oversee. These projects give the students a chance to step up and prove their leadership skills to their superiors. Amanda M McCoy Local Comedy Group Showcases Skills for First Time

The puns and jokes will be flying this Sunday, Nov. 15, at the Make Your Move Performing Arts Studio in Opelika. "What the Fox," a local improv comedy group, will be performing for the first time. Katlin Mulvaney Enjoying a “Taste of Alabama”

Each year the Agriculture Alumni Association sponsors Ag Round-Up’s “Taste of Alabama” at Ag Heritage Park. It is located at the corner of Samford and Donahue, in front of the historical red barn that sits in front of the soccer fields. Patricia DeBow Gold and Silver Exchange Opens on Gay Street

The Gold and Silver Exchange store located at 219 N. Gay St. opened on Oct. 19. The sole purpose of this store is to buy used gold and silver items from customers. The owner, Pat Reno, is not new to the business world in Auburn. In 1980, she and her husband opened the first pawn shop in the city. The shop was located on College Street in the downtown area.

Kati Jones Auburn's Newest Fraternity Strives for Excellence

On Oct. 27, Phi Sigma Kappa, or “Phi Sig,” became the 28th fraternity on Auburn’s campus. Kelsey  Ware Winter Fashion Kicks Off Next Thursday

The Auburn University Modeling Board and Auburn Nights are proud to present the Winter Fashion Show on Nov. 12 at 8 p.m. at the Greystone Mansion. For the first time, the proceeds from the Winter Fashion Show will be donated to a charitable fund. Caroline Cassidy Auburn University takes Swine Flu precautions

Auburn University received intranasal vaccines for the H1N1 virus about three weeks ago, and the Auburn University Medical Clinic is encouraging students, faculty and dependants to get the vaccine this week. “The response for college-age people is over 85 to 90 percent,” says Dr. Fred Kam, medical director for the Auburn University Medical Clinic. Elizabeth Mahaney Professional Pumpkin Carving

Last Friday, Auburn's School of Architecture hosted its 20th annual Pumpkin Carve in the courtyard of Dudley Hall. Stephanie Bivins Lee County's Historical Fair

The Lee County Historical Fair takes place once a year in Loachapoka, which is right across the street from the Syrup Soppin’ festival. The Historical Fair has been going on for 38 years. The purpose of the fair is to bring together the community for a Saturday of fun, food and history, while raising money.
