This is the first article in a series by our public relations intern, Evie. She's new to Girl Scouting, and as she participates in different Girl Scout activities, she'll share her fresh perspective with us. Evie is an unpaid intern, and this her last class before she graduates from Auburn University in August. We appreciate all that Evie (pictured with Tatyana from Camp Sunshine) is doing for Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama.

Ulta Beauty has just opened a store at Tigertown last Monday, April 13 feeling that a growing area such as Auburn-Opelika needed this kind of beauty store.
Ulta is the largest beauty retailer in the United States that combines the best of three worlds - a salon, department store and drug store under one roof.
Since Ulta is a chain beauty store, the Tigertown location is run by more than one manager. Alicia Deas, one of those managers, says that Ulta opened because Auburn is a growing college t…

As a PR student at Auburn University, we learn about different kinds of social media networks in the Style & Design in PR Messages class. Robert French, the instructor, emphasizes how important these networks are and encourages us to join a few of them while in his class.
Most students are already on Facebook and MySpace, not realizing that they are social media networks. But other websites such as The Loveliest Village and WarEagle.Me are more specifically targeted towards Auburn Universit…

Sure, the first year of college is not that hard. Most students get swept away with the excitement of parties, making their own decisions about going to class or doing their homework and football season. But once you get deeper into your major, things can get pretty overwhelming.
For Public Relations majors, it is no different. The final few classes that we have to complete can be quite stressful and take up a lot of extra, outside-of-class time.
I've asked a number of public relations student…

As with many other crazes, the Twilight series has swept the nation and made many young girls fall in love with vampires. I mean, if they're all as good looking as Edward Cullen, who wouldn't want to be bitten by someone so handsome.
I admit, I have given in to the Twilight phenomena, but I had read the first book before it became such a big hit! (Then I became a little more obsessed and read the final three books in a span of a couple of weeks. And bought the DVD the first day it was available…

“Come and let’s play together, in the bright sunny weather, let’s all go to Gullah Gullah Island!”
Remember the Nickelodeon show about a family on an imaginary island that encouraged children to eat healthy, tell the truth, and solve problems? One of the young daughters on the show was Shaina Freeman. This young girl had a four year run on Gullah Gullah Island and has grown up to be… a wonderful Auburn University student.
Shaina Freeman was a toddler model in Florida when she auditioned for th…

Gourds weren’t always Talitha Norris’ passion, until she received her first gourd as an appreciation gift from the East Alabama Gourd Sprouts. Norris wondered what she could do with this present, when the artist in her emerged and she began dabbling in gourd art.
Norris retired from Auburn University last May, but has been running her own business, Sew Creative Designs since 2003. Norris’ specialty is with sewing. From quilts to pine needle baskets, most everything that she does has to do with…

Whether used literally or loosely, BFF is an acronym most everyone is familiar with. Unfortunately, there are some people who don't get the experiences of having a "best friend forever". Best Buddies is here to help!
Best Buddies is an organization at Auburn that pairs up college students with teenagers or adults that have developmental disabilities. To become a "best buddy" you have to fill out an application, pass the interview and have a willingness to help those with disabilities.
Best Bud…

As Americans who learned English as our primary language, it's hard to grasp the concept of English as a foreign language in other countries. Auburn University has a Study Abroad Program which gives students a chance to earn class credit and to study in another country. The Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET) is one feature of the study abroad program and gives students the opportunity to teach in Japan.
Lauren Culp, a senior in Music Education, is currently interning at Richland Elementa…

Let me see a show of hands who knows that Auburn University has a competitive bass sports club? Unbeknownst to many people, the AU Bass Sports Club is a chartered competitive sports club at Auburn University, just like any other sports club. To everyone that does not know anything about the AU Bass Club, I am going to shed some light on this interesting and already very successful group of young anglers.
The AU Bass Club began in March 2007 when a group of 16 young men wanted to be part of a ba…

Walking into a computer lab inside Haley around 7 p.m., I'm not looking forward to editing my videos for Style & Design. The only other person in the computer lab was a female police officer, so I became a little nervous, even though I knew I wasn't doing anything wrong.
Waiting for my video to upload, I glance at the female cop and am surprised to see her on Facebook. I know a lot of parents have their own Facebook accounts to keep a watchful eye on their children while they're away at col…
