Filling Auburn's Doughnut Hole

The quaint city of Auburn is nearly perfect for a college town. It has mod, little coffee shops, trendy boutiques and unique eateries; basically, all the signature college town favorites. But ask any college student who has gone to school at Auburn and there is one thing that Auburn has been missing- a doughnut shop. Doughnuts are an American classic, you hardly ever meet someone who doesn't like a warm, fresh doughnut. And, in that same matter, every good town has at least one good doughnut sh… Continue

Another of Auburn's favorite traditions

The city of Auburn is full of traditions. Many of them surrounding the university or university related events. Of all those traditions, one of the most unusual and infamous is the Rodeo. Put on every spring by the College of Veterinary Medicine's Alpha Psi Fraternity, the Rodeo is one of the most looked forward to events in the Auburn area. Yes, it is a bit strange and probably helps contribute to the unfortunate and untrue reputation that the population of the city of Auburn is comprised com… Continue

Auburn Athletics Best Kept Secret

Auburn University gets a lot of recognition for its athletics. Many know the Tigers for their football, swimming, women's basketball, ect. Amsterdam's most recent expansion

An Auburn tradition, the Amsterdam Cafe, has been working hard on expanding their restaurant for about the past year. It was a much needed expansion since the cafe had become a local hot spot and seating was becoming more and more difficult. Amsterdam came to Auburn in the early 1990's but was sold to the current owners in 1998. The restaurants crowd begun to outgrow it's space and, due to it's overwhelming popularity among locals and students, Amsterdam decided to expand. After a year long pr… Continue

Teacher's Pile on the Work

It happens every semester without fail. Right before Spring Break and Thanksgiving break, professor's weigh down students with deadlines and tests. This problem is understandable from both points of view. Students and teachers alike are feeling the weight of the semester and pressure to get things accomplished. On the one hand, professors have requirements that must be met. They have to meet their departments standards and, in that, it seems to all come down at once. The students, on the other… Continue

Look good on spring break

With spring break '09 just around the corner, many are looking to get in shape for the big week. One of the best ways to do this is exercising through swimming. A little known secret is that swimming burns more calories than any other sport. Swimming is a great way to use all of your muscle groups without realizing it. Swimming is easy on the body and joints as far as injuries are concerned. Francis-Arden Jackson, a junior at Auburn University, took a water aerobics class offered for course cre… Continue

"Be Mine" at a lower cost

As if Valentine's isn't already stressful enough as it is, this year we have to take into account a recession. Pouring money in through purchasing gifts is a great way to stimulate our economy; however, that money is running slim for most people this February. "Valentine's is a sweet holiday but it's just kind of silly to waste money on elaborate gifts," said Elizabeth LeCroy, a senior at Auburn . LeCroy said that she is making her fiance a card and including some of his favorite trinkets. For… Continue

Your 2009 SGA Administration Is...

For the past year I have been lucky enough to serve Auburn University as an Assistant Director of Elections. My job was to help all candidates running for SGA position uphold the Code of Laws throughout their campaigns and to guide them through this rigorous process. Tedious work, huh? Indeed, the process is meticulous and challenging; yet, it has it's rewards. How many Auburn students attend call outs? A lot. How many actually get to call out? Very few... Me, being one of them. Pretty neat, bu… Continue

Tug's your Heartstrings

A company that has been a part of Auburn for years must come to a close. Heartstrings, a downtown Auburn gift shop, has recently decided to close and will be replaced by a Birmingham company. But former student and Heartstrings employee Sarah Brown has opened a similar store in Birmingham and will be expanded to Auburn in place of Heartstrings. The new store, Wrapsody, will open in Auburn sometime later this spring. Like H… Continue

A True College Dining Experience

Auburn University has implemented a new, more demanding dining plan for freshman and is considering the construction of a new dining hall. There has been much debate over what to do with the old Foy Student Union since the new student center was constructed in 2008. Now, authorities are speaking of transforming the old Foy Union into a dining hall. As any student at Auburn knows, Auburn's campus does not have a main dining hall for students. There are many different eateries located throughout… Continue
